The Tortoise and the Tortoise

A sluggish team is how I would describe the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 1 bout against the Falcons. They were one T.J Watt pick-6 from staying tied through the 4th quarter. The Steelers were unable to pull away from Atlanta basically throughout the game. They had a chance to go up two scores but missed a field goal from 56 yards. Aaron Rodgers played well, finishing the game with 221 yards passing and 1 TD, but their run game was largely ineffective, and their defense wasn’t as staunch as we are used to seeing. This is a new regime under Mike McCarthy, so maybe him and Rodgers will get into a rhythm. But they are going to need to show a lot more if they hope to come into Foxborough and win.

But to be honest, I don’t really love the Pats prospects after last weeks game. There is still a lot of season to change the trajectory, but Drake Maye was a mess last game. 3 INTs in which 2 of those throws shouldn’t have even been made. It was like some inexperienced, rookie QB play. That’s why it’s confusing, because this is not the Drake Maye we are used to seeing. The one who finished top 5 in QBs last year and finished 2nd in the MVP race, (hindsight bias is always 20/20.) The Pats get Treyveon Henderson back from injury but lose A.J Brown to a high ankle sprain. It’s tough for me to lean one way or another for this New England team, as they blew a lead on defense and played not well on offense when it mattered. I like the Steelers in a tight win this week.
