The MVP race is over, but these two elite QBs will never not be battling it out. Josh Allen just beat out Lamar Jackson in the MVP votes last year, and it really could’ve gone either way. I think Lamar should’ve gotten it, but they both had MVP seasons. How will they fair in Week 1 in this Divisional Round rematch?
The Bills finished last season 13-4. They looked like the most complete team outside of the Eagles. They finished 17th in defense and 10th in offense. Allen finished the season with 3,300 yards passing, 28 TDs, and 6 INTs. And, he ran for 531 yards and 12 TDs. That is a hell of a stat line for today’s NFL. The Bills marched through Denver in the Wild Card game, scraped by the Ravens, and fell short to the Chiefs…again. The Bills seem to always put together seasons to lose to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. It’s been like that for a lot of years. KC has the Bills number, and as a new season unfolds, you know that’s where their minds are. I think it may eat them alive until they get by them. And that is a good thing, until it isn’t. Yes, the Bills need to beat the Chiefs, but they must get there first. Plus, they got 17 more weeks before we even think about that. So, for now, Buffalo should just do what they do best. Win games in the regular season and put themselves in Super Bowl contention.
The Ravens really had something going last year. It was the Bills and the Ravens as the two dominant favorites out of the AFC. Baltimore finished atop their division at 12-5, and Lamar absolutely balled out. He finished the season with +4,100 yards passing, 41 TDs, and 4 INTs. It’s crazy how he didn’t win the MVP. Plus, he had 85 yards shy of 1,000 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. Quite the season for sure. But after falling short in a heartbreaking loss to the Bills, the Ravens went out and got Deandre Hopkins and Jaire Alexander. Those are two immediate impacts on both sides of the ball. I understand Hopkins is older, but he’s still out there and is capable of production. I like the Ravens here in this rematch, I think they have been waiting for this game until the schedule came out. They’re going to set the tone for the season early and stick it to the team that knocked them out of the playoffs.
