Separation is Key

With the Baker Mayfield extension done, the Bucs can finally breathe a sigh or relief. Well, to a degree. They were unable to escape their division last season and missed the playoffs. They had injuries that plagued them, but they were a median team last year. With Mike Evans gone, it’s time for Emeka Egbuka to step up and become WR1. Hopefully, unlike his counterparts, he will stay a little bit healthier and available for the season. The Bucs can be a playoff team, they could probably make a run, but they have yet to really show they can separate. I’d like Tampa Bay to hit the ground running against a Bengals team with almost no defense.

Well, I stand somewhat corrected about the defense. The Bengals may have lost Trey Hendrickson, but they gained Dexter Lawrence in his wake. Lawrence is a true NT that will disrupt the run and pass game if given the opportunity. But the problem is, he can’t drop into coverage. So, the Bengals somewhat remain at square 1. As for the flipside of the ball, it’s time for Joe Burrow to step up. He needs to stay healthy for the entire season, as he’s only played a full season 3 times in a 6-year career. That has to be better. Maybe, I don’t know, buy him some protection?? But good thing they gave up their 10th overall pick for him. I want the Bengals to be good, but even when they drop 35 on a team, they turn around and give it right back. Makes sense considering they finished 31st in total defense in 2025. I take TB here because until the Bengals defense shows me different, I’m going to keep believing the same script.
