How about that guy Tyler Shough? The Saints made a huge mistake drafting him, right?? Got to love that for Shough. The Saints finished 9th in total offense with Shough only playing 11 games. Not bad at all. Their defense however, finished 23rd. Part of the reason they finished 6-11 last season. But now they have new pieces on offense in Travis Etienne and Jordan Tyson when he gets back from injury. Plus, some good offensive line help to protect Shough. The Saints need to build off last season and put together a complete season with Shough. Their defense must get better, but let’s hope we don't see Tyler Shough fall into a sophomore slump.
(DET) Additions: Isaiah Pacheco (RB), Cade Mays (C), Chuck Clark (S), Teddy Bridgewater (QB)
(DET) Losses: Alex Anzalone (LB), Amik Robertson (CB), Grant Stuard (LB), Marcus Davenport (Edge)
The Lions are in a definite weird spot right now. A year or two ago, they were Super Bowl favorites. Last year, they couldn’t even make the playoffs, finishing the season 9-8. But Jared Goff finished 2nd in both passing yards with 4,546 yds and TDs with 34. Only 8 INTs too. So, it’s not like this was on Goff and his arsenal filled with Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. More on the defense that finished 18th in the league. I think Lions just need to remind themselves who they are. They play for Dan Campbell and run through walls for fun. They need to get back to playing even football on both sides of the ball, not just on offense. And maybe, a little less aggressive on 4th downs Danny. Just a thought though. I like the Lions to jump around the Saints in Week 1, but if their defense shows shades of last year, this game may get a little closer than expected.
