Jets @ Chiefs: Wax On, Wax Off
The Jets had a battle against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Jets should’ve won this game in retrospect. They have the ball late in the 4th quarter, down just 5 points. And Geno Smith throws an incomplete pass, then a completion, and then a INT. Another winnable game for the Jets that they were unable to close out, and that got to be the real knife in their heart. It’s not like they are getting blown out, they just can’t finish. The Jets didn’t even have a bad game, as Geno finished with 290 yards, 2 TDs, and the 1 INT. Braelon Allen had another huge day in Breece Hall’s absence, as he had 147 yards on 21 carries and 1 TD. You must get out of your own way if you want to win games. But until the Jets figure that out, they're going to keep losing. This week against the Chiefs is no exception.
The Chiefs may have some concerns on their hands, which doesn’t sound like a real sentence, but it is. Mahomes had a good day, going 30/41 with 321 yards and 3 TDs. Emmet Johnson had 143 yards from scrimmage and 1 TD, and Mahomes hit 3 receivers for more than 50 yards on the day. So, what’s the issue? Honestly, I don’t know. But the Chiefs do not have that same pop they did in their prime years. Maybe they are slipping out of their prime years, maybe they aren’t in sync, or maybe they just aren’t that good. I think everything is on the table at this point. Credit to the Broncos for holding the Chiefs on 4 straight downs to prevent the go-ahead score in the 4th quarter, but old Mahomes is getting that into the endzone one way or another. I like their odds against the Jets, as they still run out there with the 5th best offense in the league, but things need to be cleaned up this game. With extra elbow grease.
