Cardinals @ Cowboys: Mirrors and Smoke
The Cardinals were hanging around this game against the Broncos for more than a full half of football. But, shortly into the second half of the game, the Broncos took control and surged ahead. The big problem this game for Arizona was their defense. They couldn’t stop Bo Nix, who has had a history of not being able to get the ball downfield. He had a couple nice throws deep, one to Marvin Mims specifically, but the chunk plays keep coming off short yardage attempts. RJ Harvey had a 52-yard TD from a screen, and Bo Nix ran it in for a TD from 62 yards. Arizona’s run game struggled again, as they barley eclipsed 90 yards on 24 attempts. The formula has been somewhat straight forward for the Cardinals. If they can’t put a stop to your offense, they will basically lose the game. That has remained true all season, and it remained in this game.
The Cowboys won against a beat-up Eagles team filled with 90% of backups. I made that number up, but the point still stands. I get it, Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards and had 3 TDs with no turnovers, which is huge. But I was not impressed by his play last night. I watched him put numerous throws in bad spots in where the WR had to make an adjustment. Numerous times. They were effective on offense in the run game and pass game because the Eagles defense is so bad. They couldn’t stop a 4th grade team last night. And the Cowboys defense only looked good because they played Tanner McKee, who’s had maybe 2-3 starts not in week 18. Great INT from DeMarvion Overshown, that was legit. But for Cowboys fans and media saying, “the Cowboys are back!” Relax. You beat the Eagles with everyone out with injury. Obviously, the defense didn’t have injuries, they just suck. So it made your offense look like a million bucks. Remind me, how was Dameon Pierce and Saquon doing before they BOTH got hurt? 21 carries, for 109 yards, and 2 TDs. The Cowboys aren’t back, they just beat the Eagles. I’m sure we will hear the same thing when they beat the Cardinals.
