Broncos @ Chargers: The Pasture is On Fire (Almost)

The Broncos are in a little bit of a pickle at 2-2. There are no sirens going off, no one’s getting fired, and the team will be ok. But it’s time to talk about Bo Nix’s struggles throwing the ball downfield. I’m not talking an improvised play; I’m talking about sitting in the pocket and being accurate with the football. Nix has been unable to deliver the ball downfield to his WRs, and this is hurting them in games. The Broncos have only scored more than 20 points once this season thus far. Three of their four games have come against top 15 defenses. But on top of being tentative to throw it deep, Denver’s run game has also been lukewarm all season. They are 29th in the run game thus far, and 27th in total offense. And to cap it all off, the cornerstone of their team, their defense, sits at 28th in the league. Right now, the Broncos are not where they need to be. They luckily play the Chargers, so they can try and kill two birds with one stone this week.

I don’t care how good Justin Herbert “should be.” Or how good he “could be” if his WRs just caught the ball. Last time I checked, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were enlisting cashiers and mailmen to play WR for their team, and they won 6 SBs with plug and play guys. Justin Herbert is not focused. Justin Herbert is not taking care of the ball. And Justin Herbert looks bad to start the season. He has just 816 yards on the season, 4 TDs, and 6 INTs. Oh, and he has 4 fumbles on the year. It all starts with the QB, and being touted as a franchise player with undeniable arm talent is not saving him anymore. The Chargers need to win a game, or everyone should be moved. I think Hebert will start to look like his old self soon, but the question is when? If we are just going to keep making excuses for him, then nothing will change. Justin Herbert needs to take some accountability and be better. And before I conclude, Herbert had just 189 yards on 19/31 passes, for 1 TD and 2 INTs. Not even close to good enough. Charger fans, you better be praying, because Armageddon may be on its way to Los Angeles.
