Tom Brady vs… Tom Brady??? I’m just kidding. But, Tom Brady as a minority owner of the Raiders, will watch as his team takes on his old team, the New England Patriots. In Foxborough. Kind of wish Tom was suiting up for this one, but nonetheless, a good game to unfold for sure.
Geno Smith is now a Las Vegas Raider, which I think is a nice fit for both parties. Smith is proven. You are aware of his floor, but not always able to touch his ceiling. And that’s a good thing, especially for a Raiders team who have severely struggled on offense for some years now. They were 27th in the league last year in total offense and were dead last in the run game. They averaged 10 yards less than the second worst rushing team, (the Jets had 91.8 ypg, and the Raiders has 79.8 ypg.) Abysmal. And while we are sharing bad news, it seems like Jakobi Meyers is going to be traded. So there goes WR1. OK, upshot time. They got Geno Smith, they drafted Ashton Jeanty, and still have Brock Bowers. If their line can just do a little bit more, it may lead to some success for generational Ashton Jeanty. And that may lead to some overall team success. Time runs out quickly in the NFL, so hopefully they get their ducks in a row.
Drake Maye lovers come forth, it is time to see your shining King once again. He returns at home in front of lots of loud, inebriated, and passionate fanbase. (No hate to Pats fans, every fanbase is like that.) All jokes aside, Drake Maye looked really promising last season. 2,200+ yards, 15 TDs. Not bad rook. But he is a rook no more, and hopefully, he can bring that same execution with more confidence this year. The Pats were -11 in turnover differential last year, and Maye had 10 INTs. Not horrible by a long stretch, but he is more than capable of cleaning that up. New England also brought in Stefon Diggs and drafted RB TreVeyon Henderson to help add to the production. It all lies in the QB though. I like New England here at home, but I think the Raiders start clicking late game.
