Unrequited Ambition

This could’ve been a historic game. A game in which a record that hasn’t been touched in decades, might finally meet its maker. It was said by Nick Sirianni on the first day of 2025. The Eagles will be resting some players, which includes Saquon Barkley. He took it well in the media, giving very team first answers, but I think he wanted to get this record. He currently sits just 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season all-time rushing record, which sits at 2,105 yards. While Barkley isn’t going to get that record, he becomes the ninth running back in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 yards. It’s a shame, considering he was going to do it against his former team too, which would’ve been absolutely bananas. All that aside, the Eagles have locked up the #2 seed in the NFC, so I ca understand where Sirianni is coming from. There is just no guarantee that resting Saquon leads to a win, or him performing better. The odds are favored, sure, but it’s no sure thing. That’s why I say let him get the record. What if they lose the first game in the playoffs and now it was all for nothing, and Barkley doesn’t get the record? Just my thoughts on the matter.
The Giants had an impressive win against a flailing Colts team trying to make the playoffs. Drew Lock played the best game of his life, on that divides Giants fans to this day, and may forever divide them. On the one hand, nice job avoiding the winless at home stat, (hadn’t happened since 1974), but you just cost yourself the first pick doing that. I really don’t know what the Giants’ odds are to win this game. It can’t be that high, but against a backup Eagles team, they may be able to compete if they played like they did last week. Lock will have to be on his Ps and Qs, Nabers is going to have to pop off again, and their defense needs to stop the run. I might add that they need to try and be a little better in coverage, but I’m not going to get greedy here. Let’s make a couple of those other things happen and then we can continue to discuss the possibility of New York winning. I don’t think they win in Philly, but they might be rolling high from last week and carry that positivity into the last week of their season.
