The Buccaneers absolutely need this game, and probably the next if they are to make the playoffs. But say it with me now, “they need to take it one week at a time.” They are in a gridlock with the Falcons at 8-7, but right now Atlanta holds the division. They get a weaker Carolina team this week, so they need to capitalize on their good fortune. This is the 3rd ranked offense in the league, going against the second worst defense in the league. You do the math. Baker Mayfield didn’t play bad against the Cowboys, throwing for 303 yards and 2 TDs, but they were unable to get the victory. Now, they need this one this week. Just stay hot on offense, hold off this offense which is 30th in the league. The statistics are in their favor this week, they just need to win. The Falcons are playing the Commanders, so tougher matchup for them too.

The Panthers were able to knock off the Cardinals last week and take them out of playoff contention. I bet that will want to do the same thing to the Bucs. Or at the very minimum, make their path harder. Division rivalry stuff. They’re out of the race, but if they can carry some of that good momentum from last week, who knows. I know they don’t have a good defense or offense, but football is one by players, not rankings and statistics. And the Carolina players have been playing well. I don’t think it will be enough to take down Tampa Bay but keep that head up and roll into the week feeling good about your chances. Even if they’re not great in reality.

POSTGAME:

Baker Mayfield put his shades on and balled. Cool, calm, and collected. Triple C. I might start referring to him as that. Triple C had 3 TDs at the end of the first half. Finished with 5 TDs on the day and 359 yards passing. It’s almost every week with this guy and this offense. And Bucky Irving is the only other rookie running back rivaling Tyrone Tracy’s recent achievement, as Irving has 1,430 total scrimmage yards this year. That’s insane. Nice bounce back game after the loss to Dallas, and now, they lead the division. They’ll need this week’s game against the Saints to make it through. I will say again though, Bryce Young has turned the corner. 203 yards and 2 TDs, he is finding himself. I wish nothing but the best to that team and Young in the future.
