The NFL season kicks off in Philadelphia, where the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys. The first game of the season always brings a huge buzz back to the fanbases, but with all the drama surrounding Dallas as of late, everyone is going to be tuned in Thursday.

The Cowboys come off a disappointing end to their season last year. They finished 7-10, which was a disappointing follow-up to their divisional championship status in 2023, where they were 12-5. There are always rumors with the Cowboys, and they didn’t get any better as of late. No one lives under a rock. Micah Parsons is a Packer. The Cowboys were unable to come to an agreement with Parsons during contract negotiations, and decided to let him go, (absolutely brilliant Jerry.) Jerry Jones had a multitude of excuses in his presser explaining his decisions, but they were just excuses. The Cowboys certainly got worse with that trade, and while they did secure two first round picks and 3x Pro-Bowler Kenny Clark, they’re taking a big swing letting a generational talent in Parsons go. But it’s a new season. Dak Prescott still needs to demonstrate he can do it in playoff moments, because I’m sure the Cowboys will still be competing with most teams this season. Because they always beat on teams in the regular season. But how long will they be able to stay in the game? We will have to see as they head to Philadelphia.

The Eagles are an interesting team this season. They are coming off a dominating season where they pretty much wiped the floor with everyone they played. Jalen Hurts threw for 2,900+ yards and 18 TDs, Saquon Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards. They led the league in total defense, passing defense, and were 10th in run defense. They were obviously strangling in the run game, but their pass game left a lot to be desired, finishing bottom five in the league. They also got a little thinner in their cornerbacks, losing CJ Gardner-Johnson and Isaiah Rodgers. NT Milton Williams and edge rusher Josh Sweat also departed in the off-season, so while the Eagles remain strong, they don’t have as much depth as they did in 2024. I believe the Eagles will stay in stride and beat the Cowboys at home pretty handily, but look to the later weeks as the season progresse to see if they are as dominant as last year.
