If you remember my blogs from last year, you will remember me having a certain love affair with a certain QB from Carolina that starts with a “B” and ends in a “Ryce.” Spoiler alert, it’s Bryce Young. Well, let me say, that love affair is continuing in full force this year. Because this, is Bryce Young’s year.
Bryce Young struggled early on his first year. And in his second year, he really didn’t get going until the latter half of the season. There are more pieces needed I believe, but I think it’s starting to come together. Chubba Hubbard was locked down last year and this year, the Panthers drafted rookie WR Tet McMillan. They need some help on defense though, which finished dead last in the prior year. I just know I believe in Bryce Young. If Carolina can continue to build around him, get him protection and production players, they can start making a splash. It probably won’t be this year, but let’s see how they do Week 1.
The Jaguars finished a dismal 4-13 last season. They were bottom half in offensive rankings and second to last in defensive rankings. The thing is, on paper, their roster is talented. That’s why it's perplexing. Trevor Lawrence has not played great, and last year was his worst statistical year by far. So, Jacksonville took a stab with their #2 pick and selected unicorn Travis Hunter. I’ll be quick here. I don’t think he will have long term success in the NFL. Hate me all you want, in my opinion, he is a below average CB and WR who gets bodied by bigger wide receivers and runs sloppy routes. Relied too much on athleticism instead of technique in college, and I don't think that game-plan works out in the NFL. Let me say it again though. IT IS MY OPINION. Maybe he will prove me wrong though. That aside, they added a playmaker at WR in Hunter. Alongside Brian Thomas Jr., who is actually an incredible WR. They still have Travis Etienne Jr., but they have Tank Bigsby and rookie Bhayshul Tuten in that committee as well. If there defense can play to their ability, which is higher than what they’ve shown, they can be a force. Coupled with Trevor Lawrence having one of his better if not best season this year, then they will see success. I actually like Carolina here, as I think the Jaguars will be slow out of the gate like last year.
