Here's another divisional matchup between two teams that have performed below expectations this season. The Jets came into the season with a shiny new toy, one they believed was going to help them have that success that has been evading them since the butt fumble. Aaron Rodgers was to be the captain, the president, the leader and quarterback for the Jets, but it seems that there may be too many positions to hold, as a lack of coherent football has been the cause of the Jets dismay again. Let’s not get it confused; the Jets have talent. On paper, they should have one of the best teams in the league, between guys like Sauce Gardner, Will McDonald, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and let’s not forget Davante Adams. But despite all these pieces, the Jets have only netted three wins on the season losing a couple heartbreakers, as well as the occasional blowout, (i.e vs. the Cardinals.) Whatever the reasons for their lack of success, Jets fans aren’t happy and were looking for Rodgers to turn this franchise around. There’s still time in the season, but who knows how it’s going to go. Similarly, the Dolphins have had their ups and downs over this season, namely, almost losing their starting QB Tua Tagovailoa to another concussion. While he has returned to decent form while avoiding more hits, they have not had the same flash and bang in their offense as they did last year. Tyreek Hill, who is dealing with an injury and is status for Sunday is undefined, has been quiet all year, with only 654 yards and 4 TDs. De’von Achane has been a bright spot, and Jaylen Waddle has increased his production, but if the Dolphins want to put it together going forward and have a chance at a wildcard spot, they need to be able to beat the worse teams in their division. This is a perfect opportunity to turn up the heat.

POSTGAME:

By winning this game, the Dolphins put themselves closer to a wildcard spot with that win. Every game counts, and beating their division rivals helped their chances. But they can’t get complacent. I’m not going to harp on them for not being more dominant over the Jets, because they’re in a fight for survival, but they have the Texans and 49ers in back-to-back weeks, who are unbiasedly better opponents. If they can hold their own and win one of those games, they will have much less pressure going into their games against the Browns and Jets.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 339 yards, completing 27 of 39 passes and throwing 1 TD, which is a a step in the right direction. But they only had two total touchdowns and had to kick 4 FGs. Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson both had over 100 yards receiving, and you’re still leaving points on the board. If Rodgers can keep playing well like he did in this game, then maybe they can get a win or two, maybe even carry it into next season. That’s probably asking a lot though.
