This is a bounce-back game for the Lions. No doubt about it. Well, it’s not a true bounce-back game, but a game they need to win after last week’s loss to the Bills. Don’t worry, the Lions are still making the playoffs, they could lose every game and still make it. But where there is concern is the lack of depth they have. As of December first, the Lions led the league in most injuries with 25, and that number has surely risen since then. Two things for the Lions this week; tighten up on defense because that’s becoming a real liability and be smart with the football. The Lions defense ranks in the middle of the pack, but they allow almost 335 total yards a game and allow over 20 points a game. That must change, immediately. I’ve been saying it for weeks, and while the Lions have been able to blow by most teams, they will not be able to do that for everyone. A perfect example of that being the game against the Lions last week. Secondly, they need to be smart when they have the ball. I’m all for the aggressiveness, but within reason. No more onside kicks down 10, you don’t need to go for it on 4th down every time winning the game and just don’t force a conversion because you’ve built this identity of fearlessness. Cut down on those issues, and the Lions will be much more feared than they already are.

The Bears are cooked. Tough season, but let’s wrap it up and try again next year. They are 24th in total defense and second to last in total offense. Didn’t they have the number one overall pick? And a bunch of draft capital in good positions this year? And didn’t they have the best talent for a rookie QB who was deemed to be the next great QB of our time? Yeah, well, hate to break it to you, but when your franchise has been run as poorly as Chicago has been for a long time, a couple draft picks aren’t going to fix the real issue. You are just treating the symptoms. I want them to be good, I want Caleb Williams to prove me wrong, but he has just played very poorly all year. I’m not saying it’s over; I’m just saying let’s hope they make some effective changes next year or this whole rebranding of their franchise will once again be for nothing. Against the Lions, I don’t think the Bears have a fair shot. They’re going to get outgunned on offense and defense, probably special teams too.
