Blow the Doors Off

I’m taking the Bears here. I’m going to come right out and say it. The 49ers have been struggling. They are dealing with injuries to Christian McCaffrey, who may be out for the season again, Jordan Mason, Javon Hargrave and Brandon Aiyuk. It’s more than likely Nick Bosa and Trent Williams won’t play either. It just keeps getting worse for San Francisco, and as they continue to struggle, a little underdog from Chicago has been quietly performing better than they have earlier on this season. I’m not going to sugar-coat anything, the Bears have lost six straight games, but their last three were comforting losses, (if that’s a thing.) Against the Packers, Vikings, and Lions, they lost by one score, and in those three games, Caleb Williams has thrown for 827 yards, 5 TDs, and no INTs. They have been competing against playoff teams, and it's more than likely Chicago will not make the postseason. Still, something about this team in the last few weeks makes you second guess if writing them off is the right thing to do. Against a struggling, 49ers team, and with their offense clicking like this, on top of allowing only 20 points a game, which is 9th best in the league, they might turn some heads this Sunday. I think that the 49ers could possibly turn it around, but without some of their huge anchoring pieces, I don’t know if they can do it this week, let alone come playoff time. Hammer the Bears, it's time to ride with the Windy City.

POSTGAME:

Sometimes, all you are is wrong. And this is one of those times for me. It may not be time to ride with Chicago. The 49ers and Brock Purdy may not be doomed despite all their injuries. And Caleb Williams and the Bears offense looks like they regressed into their earlier-season selves this game. Williams was 17/23 with 134 yards and 2 TDs, which isn’t bad but not enough in the NFL. Their running back committee, made up of D’Andre Swift and Darrynton Evans combined for 17 carries and only 41 yards. What’s even more confusing is they only had 3 minutes less of possession than the 49ers. The Bears gave up 7 sacks for 46 yards, and while their offensive line is abysmal, I can guarantee you Caleb Williams held onto the ball for too long on some of those sacks. Clearly, Matt Eberflus wasn’t the entirety of the issue, as they just took a heavy 38-13 loss while he was sitting on his couch.

The 49ers however, had their bounce back game. Brock Purdy once again, silenced the critics in their attempts to call him a system QB placed in a dominant scheme with good players and is the only reason for his success. He was 20/25 for 325 yards and 2 TDs, in which he hit seven different receivers. Running back Isaac Guerendo had 15 carries for 78 yards and 2 TDs. Patrick Taylor Jr., another running back, had 7 carries for 25 yards and 1 TD. But no, Brock Purdy can’t do it without Christian McCaffrey, (nothing but respect Christian, big fan.)
